Our Animals

Prepare to be enthralled as we invite you to embark on a journey through our kingdom of creatures, where every encounter is a testament to the beauty and diversity of the natural world.

Buffalo

What’s more American than buffalo? Our buffalo can be found while hiking the Continental Crossing Trail. This informative stop brings to life the echoes of Indiana’s prairie past. We’re not only reintroducing buffalo, we’re restoring their prairie too.

Horses

While hiking along the Continental Crossing Trail you will not only see the prairie that hold our bison, but a herd of draft horses. These horses will be hard at work on our 90+ acres, helping with harvesting, wagon rides, and much more.

Chickens

South Bend Farms houses more than 300 free-roaming chickens. These unique chickens will produce fresh eggs that supply South Bend Farms, Public House, Chocolate Cafe, and the Indiana Dinosaur Museum's egg room.

Goats

What did raptors eat for lunch? Our goats not only help keep our grass down but are a delicious snack for many of our dinosaurs. The Raptor Nutritional Services house 2 goats. Sully and Gordon are Nigerian Dwarf Goats and have been raised since birth by the Tarners.

Tortoises

Explore the mesmerizing world of baby tortoises as they hatch and embark on their incredible journey to adulthood at our museum exhibit. Witness their tiny steps and learn about the challenges they face in the wild.

Caiman

With their ancient lineage and enigmatic charm, caiman offer visitors a glimpse into the fascinating world of crocodilians. By providing a safe and nurturing environment for these magnificent creatures, we aim to inspire awareness and appreciation for the intricate web of life that sustains our planet.  You can find our caiman in our aquatic area, located at the north-east wall. Just look for the "Live Animals" sign!
